Michael: Briefly tell us a little about your business, how you got into the insurance business, and so on.
Scott: My dad started the agency in 1964 and then my sister came on board in about 1996. In 2006—at that point my dad was 70—I was working for a company called Golf USA doing franchise operations, traveling all over the world, and my dad saw me after I got back from a trip to Korea and said “You know what, you don’t look to good. Why don’t you come in, I’ll
teach you the business, you can buy me out, and it’ll be a great opportunity.” And so I did! In fact, my dad and I had breakfast this morning and we were talking about it. He said “You know, I don’t know if I would have done it any differently!” Both of us sort of agreed this morning that we wouldn’t have changed anything about the agreement that we made, it just worked out really well.
